At the end of the 50s, the Soviet people were striving for space, and the Volga was the best domestic car. The Party and the Government presented the Volga to the best citizens of the Fatherland for their successes in space. Many have heard about the series of these machines, few have seen and almost no one knows anything.

These were cars of the so-called 2nd series (improved trim and a boosted engine from 70 to 80 hp). The body and chassis were selected on the conveyor, and then manually brought to the so-called cosmic shine, the series consisted of 68 cars produced in 1960 and 1961, a chrome valve cover and a chrome-plated heater body were installed under the hood. The interior was sewn by hand, using American lavsan fabric with red or blue lurex thread and brown leatherette for the exterior trim of the seats and door cards. The colors of the cars themselves could be different: for Korolyov it was white, for Gagarin it was light gray, for Academician Chimerisin it was green, for the hero of our story it was light lilac. The factory of paints and varnishes "Victory of workers" in the city of Yaroslavl produced
paints for all Soviet cars and therefore it is not difficult to determine the original color of the car by the color number. This car had paint # 21, body # 106156, engine # 21A110643 and chassis # 0105689. Volga GAZ-21k was donated to Grigory Petrovich Dubenko, the designer of the Kiev Institute of Electric Welding. Paton along with the star of the Hero of Socialist Labor. Grigory Petrovich was not marked in any list, since his feat was - the design of welding the hull of the orbital station "Vostok" in which Yuri Gagarin made his first stellar flight. The car was registered in Kiev in 1960, and received black numbers 3003 KIS (numbers
survived). Dubenko received his second Hero Star in 1964 for the successful design of the Zvezda project - chief designer of welding in space. For this feat, the Motherland awarded him a three-room apartment in the house of scientists on the Pervomaisky massif on Aviation Street (since 1985 - Aviakonstruktora Antonov Street). The designer's work was extremely secret, he had no right to rest even at sea, the state security bodies were afraid of enemy saboteurs. The extraordinary "care of the Motherland" left an imprint on Dubenko's character, making him difficult and intractable. Since there was nowhere to go, the car remained in perfect condition after only 37,000 km. Of all the cars of the "star series", so nicknamed for belonging to the cosmos of owners and a shiny thread in the fabric of the upholstery, this is perhaps the best known to date. Its value is in the historical character of the owner, and in the perfect condition of the car of one of the most closed and little-known series.
